Truck/suv rental to take on out west trip towing ??

Just thinking outside the box here. My 2000 burb with 200,000 miles is not getting any younger, so was wondering if I rented a 2015 Yukon xl or sub and hooked up trailer and go. Is this allowed when you rent ?? is it a fortune ?? how about 12 pass chevy van with tow package ?? just looking for some insight. I do believe in my truck, just don't want to tax her too bad.
  • Most rentals don't allow towing and accordingly won't have hitches but I've heard of specialty rentals that are equipped and rented as tow vehicles.

What are the specs of the TT?
  • I thought I remember hearing on here some that had rented a crew cab diesel to tow with . I am hopimg to rent a 2015 Yukon xl with 6.2 and tow away !!
  • I don't know about all of the rental companies, but since the liability insurance on the towed unit is covered by the liability insurance on the truck, most will not allow towing with a rental. Too much of a risk for the rental company.
  • Brake controller? Hitch? Are only two of many questions. After renting hundreds of vehicles over the years I think the dont ask, dont tell theory might apply unless you have a mechanical failure or accident. Then there could be problems.
