OTOH came across this on Amazon which is rated at 500 lb/ft of torque which should have no issues supporting 4 bikes. Then I could go with any 2" tube bike carrier.

I had installed a 2" clamp on receiver, and never used is after finding it crushed the bumper tube a little too easily, which would eventually cause it to crack if I used any brackets to support the bumper, hence why I was looking for a front mount. Not at all concerned about tail weight as it is actually a tad nose heavy @ 13.8% on the ball.

Thanks, I saw that one, but only holds two bikes. My main concern is turning room. I did see there is a clamp on one that clamps to the 2" shank and straps to the tailgate to secure it from swaying. It holds 4 bikes, but turning looked tight which means backing up would be a pain and would have to be removed.

If you have sufficient space on the tongue (4 inches or so) build one. Mine works great. “Mountain bikes” doesn’t help since they range from 25 pounds to 40. Times four could mean 160 plus the rack. Sufficient TV payload?

check out this tongue mounted bike rack I have this one and works pretty good. I don't loose any space in my truck and its sturdy
