I recently turned 30 and my wife and I were in the same boat three years ago when we bought our first trailer. My advice would be to buy something that works good for you right now and for the next few years, because your wants/needs WILL change.
We bought ours with the idea that with the fold down bunk above the full bed and a dinette and sofa bed, it would be ok when we had kids. We now have a two year-old, six month-old, and dog, and although we haven't had everybody in the trailer together yet, it will be difficult for everyone to sleep at the same time because it is basically one big room.
I am now thinking in a couple years we may need to get a bunkhouse trailer, even though I don't like the added length. I would also recommend something with a slideout because that greatly increases the floor space in a smaller trailer. I am partial to Outdoors RV manufactured trailers but there probably aren't many (if any) out East.
Good luck!
