I just purchased a used TT that has a GVWR of 7500 lbs. The tires are 205's with a C load range of 1820 lbs. So 4 tires gives me a total support for 7240 lbs. I know the tongue weight is supported by the TV but this still seems that there is not enough margin of safety. Since I also want to replace the wheels due to surface rust on them I have been looking for tire/wheel combinations. I would like to upgrade to load range D and the combo I have found online is a Loadstar load range D. I have no experience with that brand. Would it be an acceptable upgrade? I expect to tow less than 1500 miles/year.
Thanks,
Dennis
There are a lot of new tire options coming on the American market. Some may be desirable for RV trailer axle service. Their sizes and price ranges are compatible with lots of ST tires and their durability may end up surpassing the ST.
Here is one of those options for your viewing. It's already at some of the major (nationwide) retailers.
It's the Continental Vanco 2, size 215/70R15C, in load range D. The C at the end of the size designation indicates it's a tire designed for commercial usage in the European market.
It's a little smaller in Diameter (26.9") than your current tires (27.1") and a little wider at 8.7" to your 7.99". It has a load capacity of 2271# at 65 psi. Cost is somewhere around $137.00 per tire. It has a nice rim size (5.5" - 7.0") to choose from.

A quick and unexpected second response, and correction/clarification apparently…
Dear John,

Thank you for contacting Customer Relations at Continental Tire the Americas, LLC.
We no longer manufacture ST tires, and the Vanco line is not a suitable alternative.
We would recommend searching for a dedicated ST tire line.

Well that settles the question once and for all and we are back to ST tires once again unless you can properly make the jump to LT tires
