TT tire upgrade, should I go with Loadstar

I just purchased a used TT that has a GVWR of 7500 lbs. The tires are 205's with a C load range of 1820 lbs. So 4 tires gives me a total support for 7240 lbs. I know the tongue weight is supported by the TV but this still seems that there is not enough margin of safety. Since I also want to replace the wheels due to surface rust on them I have been looking for tire/wheel combinations. I would like to upgrade to load range D and the combo I have found online is a Loadstar load range D. I have no experience with that brand. Would it be an acceptable upgrade? I expect to tow less than 1500 miles/year.

Thanks,
Dennis

your best bet is to get a higher load capacity in pounds
you can go up in size
or go up in load range
    or do both
it is less about brand than it is about load rating
a load range d in a loadstar would be an improvement
    a better one would be a 215 or 225 load range D or E

You seem to have issues with those of us that recommend Maxxis in an ST tire...calling us, "old fogies," in a previous thread.

I agree with you, I'm an old foggy. Now, can you recommend a BETTER ST tire? All the per-cent this and per-cent that numbers are about Maxxis passenger car tires and have nothing to do with their ST (8008) line.

Again, I'm open minded and would like to hear your better ST recommendation.

Have to agree. No evidence that Maxxiss are in the top 50% of tire quality? Only if one chooses to ignore the collective experience of what they not only have read here, but what people like myself have experienced personally as well.
  • If you're thinking of upgrading to a larger wheel you might try this place http://www.tredittire.com/Aluminum-Wheels-C10.aspx, I emailed them about the T07-6 lug rim and they quoted me $85.00ea. I thought that was a good deal. So I'm sure your 5 lug rims would be cheaper. Shipping was not included in the price. But I see your in FL and they have a distribution center there so may not be too bad. They carry steel and aluminum rims. Maxxis seems to be all the rage on here, but reading on other forums the GY Marathons seem to do well also. For 1500 miles a year Maxxis may be overkill. I just traded a TT that had GY Marathons on it from the factory. They had 10,000 miles on them and still had 40% tread left. Most tire sites suggest replacing tires after 5-7 yrs anyway. IMO I wouldn't get anything in an ST unless it was a GY or Maxxis.

Maxxis has the best reputation for trailer tires on RVs by actual owners. Not a perfect reputation, but very good. Here is some evidence.

You site CR ratings of Maxxis brand passenger tires, but people should not be putting passenger tires (maybe LT truck) on double axle trailers. Look at some of Tirerack's survey results. like this one, where the same brand has some models near the top as well as near the bottom.

Please refrain from using information that does not apply to the Maxxis M8008 when making your recommendations.
  • Loadstar is just another China bomb no matter the load rating. Do yourself a huge favor and get the Maxxis even if you have to order them.

If you have 15-16" wheels or clearance for them you could upgrade to LT's.

  • Check the specs on Kumho 857 radials at Tire Rack ... they offer the best 14 inch load range D tires I could find.

  • Maxxis makes the best ST tires available at this time. What size wheels are on the trailer? I would not buy the "Blowstar" tires
