TT Tires , Sitting on What?

I have heard so many different opinions. Some say they leave their TT,s in their yard on the grass, some park on wood, gravel, concrete. What do you park your RV,TT,MH on? I leave mine on a crush-r-run (stone and stone dust) pad.

I use cheap 16"x16" concrete pavers for my TT tires to sit on.. If I don't I would have to dig around them in the spring to unbury them.. The frost heaves from our winters tends to sink objects with a lot of weight right into the ground.

Also makes for very easy way to park the trailer and even do routine maintenance to the axles/brakes in the spring time without the muddy mess.
  • He storage lot where I'm at is all gravel. I'm at the high end so the gravel underneath stays dry. I put down some patio blocks to park on. This keeps the tires from sitting on the rocks for the winter. A smooth surface is better than a jagged surface for tires. Also if you leave it sit on grass over the winter, the tires will dry rot in the one spot where it touches the ground.

I wish I had a concrete pad to park it on at home.
  • It's not so much for the tires as is it for the undercarriage. With A MH, park it on grass for long periods of time and you're looking at rusty brake calipers, exhaust etc on the undercarriage.

Bottom line in my experience parking any RV directly on the ground is eventually going to cause some problems from the moisture/rusting.

Perfect world is concrete pad under the whole RV. A real perfect world if up North, concrete pad and under roof.
  • Our tires are on plastic desk chair floor mats, on gravel.
  • All my trailers sit in a shed on treated 2"x 8" on 1 1/2"crusher run.
All of my non RV and RV trailers have P or LT tires.

IMO the most important is keep them out of the sun and pumped to the max sidewall pressure as recommended for long term storage.
  • I park my Catalina on the driveway, which is the same material as the street. My little camper is in the "grass", though the grass has since turned to dirt.
  • Really doesn't matter what they sit on. They come off every 4 years anyway
