TT with front window/shutter leak

I have narrowed my search down & 1 TT I like has a front window with a fold down shutter. Question is how easy or likely is it to leak? Rain beating down on it while going down the road has to be hard on the shutter.

It is a Open Range LT305bhs.

  • My funfinder also has a fixed front window ( non opening ) with a hinged rock guard. The rock guard is just that...it would do nothing to prevent water from coming in. As always, they key to keeping this area dry is to maintain the seal.
I too like it ( front bed area ) because it is one more opening to let light in during the day. That was my biggest complaint of older trailers years ago, too few and too small windows. I prefer the open "lots of outside light" feeling of modern campers.

  • love my front window when sleeping, its a nice view. Never has leaked on my FunFinder
  • Our last two trailers from 1997 to the present have had front windows with a shutter or "rock guard". We have never had a leak problem and really appreciate the ability to sit inside and look out the front of the trailer and the ability to capture some of the breeze during the day. The earlier trailer was a front living room and our present one is a front kitchen.

Now if the window was in a front BEDROOM then my opinion might be different. We have a rear bedroom with a window in the rear cap but no shutter or "rock guard" over it. It is a simple two pane Jalousie type window. It has never leaked at all but I must say we very seldom open it and the day/night shade is usually pulled down. We could very well do without a rear window.

  • I have a front window that is sealed shut with a window cover and it does not leak. As with any window, if seal is good then it should not be a problem.
  • Our first TT was a Coachmen 27BH with a front window with the fold-down protective fiberglass shutter. The window was also a jalousie type where the bottom half would open and fold out for ventilation. This window always leaked when towing in the rain, even with the shutter closed. There are two small weep holes/slots in the bottom of the frame and I think this is where the water was getting in. Anytime after pulling it in the rain, there would be water on the bed/pillows. This Coachmen had many other leaks also that I didn't see until the floor was rotted out in several places. Not happy times with this TT.
  • I have an older trailer with the front window and shutter. I love it, some of the newer trailers don't have one. I thik I would miss it if it wasn't there. When it rains, it's another window you can keep open.
  • We have front window (front kitchen) with a shutter. We just make sure the shutter is down and secure and the window is sealed good and we have had no problem. Our trailer is a 2006 Keystone Sprinter. I wouldn't worry about it.
