Are there ways to over stress an engine at such low rpm?
It may be a different story while towing through the mountains with many steep grades. I can assume the rpm would get up there. I have not been in that situation yet. I'm mostly flatland towing.
I did come across some fairly steep hills this weekend. To encounter them I would speed up to 68-70 mph before I hit it, took it off of cruise control and allowed it to slow to about 62 by the time I crest the hill. It stayed in OD the whole time with no signs of stress. I just held the throttle steady just before the downshift point and it rolled right up.
As impressed I am with this engine I am equally impressed with the transmission. I few times I was caught off-guard with traffic lights on Highway 6 and the tranny downshifted when I needed it to create excellent engine braking.
Coming from a 1997 F150 4.6L this 2011 EB impresses the heck out of me every time I tow with it. The longevity verdict is still out though.
