Ford already has two eco turbo engines for their small cars. A 2.0 and a 1.4 I believe.
Maybe they're try to get away from all of their NA engines. The turbos are really crowded at the low cubic inch area. I can't imagine that there wouldn't be a market for their 3.5 non eco boost at least for a few more years. They don't have the ranger so what are they going to use for a delivery truck. Putting a kid into any of the turbo cars seems scary.
I guess they could drop the 3.5 eco and eco boost the 5.0.
I wonder where they are getting their turbos. Twin turbos for the 3.5 eco at only a grand premium seems awfully cheap.
