I think I read somewhere that the 2.7 EB in the F150 will shut off the engine at red lights. I recall that the same article also said that it will leave the engine on if the truck is in tow mode.
To me the EcoBoost seems like a pretty decent advance in engine design for autos that Americans actually like to drive. The EcoBoost technology IS quite young still and it seems like there is still a lot of room for advancements as Ford gains more experience in production direct injection vehicles.
Direct injection engines are not new but my understanding is that what has always been holding back the technology is cost. It seems that Ford has figured out how to make a forced induction direct injection engine that the American public will buy and still make money on them in the process. Pretty much all the feedback I have heard from on boards have been very positive regarding EcoBoost.
The GM cylinder cutting tech has been around for many years and doesn't seem to have much room for improvement from where it is now.
