Yes, it has the start stop. It won't be any good where I live. April to October it is constantly hot and we will need the air on. So It would be shut off here most of the year here. Then between warm weather and the defroster, the air conditioner will be in a lot of use through the rest of the year.
Most electric cars have enough power to keep the air-conditioner and heat on for a while. But not in the eco boost.
It is also shut off while in tow haul mode. I wonder how the EPA will test it? Will it only be under conditions that the stop start is in operation? If so real world numbers will be much lower in my area at least.
Cost is another questionable thing. The diesels are reliable for the most part. But their option cost has gone to 9000 grand or so, even on diesels with only a single turbo. That's a doubling of the cost to make them reliable.
The Twin turbo engines are optioned at 1000 to 2000 dollars. Is everyone getting screwed on the diesels or are the eco turbos that cheap?
Good point! A vehicle without a practical AC won't go over very well. It will be very interesting to see what Ford comes up with! I don't believe that Ford is stupid enough to come out with a vehicle without a practical AC... but maybe I give Ford too much credit!
My understanding is the 3.5 EB is aimed at everyday drivers that also do some real towing. I don't believe the 2.7 EB is aimed at this same market. I believe the 2.7 EB is a grocery getter / soccer kid transporter for parents that feel better in larger vehicles. The specs I have seen show the 2.7 EB to have very little mpg advantage on the highway if any. Where the 2.7 EB seems to excel is in City driving... you know, groceries and kids with soccer cleats.
Still the 2.7 EB sounds like a very interesting engine! Sounds like a great engine for mid sized cars, SUVs and grocery getting F150s. Just because nobody on this board would want or buy a 2.7 EB doesn't mean that there isn't a potential for a huge market for one!
