In Texas, the most popular configuration for an F-150 is Supercrew 2WD with 5.5 bed, followed closely by the 4x4 supercrew 5.5 bed. Perhaps where you are the 6.5 bed is popular, but how many trucks does Ford sell in your state vs. mine?
OK, so maybe the near-useless statement was over board. However, I personally owned a 2010 F-150 FX4 Supercrew with a 6.5. I never towed anything with it, but I hauled a lot of stuff and a 5.5 was near useless to me. However this stuff aside, don't you find it telling, that the 2.7 cannot be had with a basic 4x4 supercrew with 6.5 bed? Is there some sort of efficiency envelope that made Ford stop short of making it available across the board. It has lots of power down low and early torque. Hell, this engine seems to have more power overall than the old 5.4 liter that my truck had.
So getting back to my point, Why stop w/ the 5.5 bed? There are plenty that haul stuff around and don't need the tow capacity, but need the haul capacity (cubic feet) of a 6.5' bed. With the recent motortrend realmpg test, it makes me wonder what the new F-150 would pull mpg wise with the 3.5 ecoboost in similar configuration. Ford has spent a lot of money and there has been lots of journalistic hype around the lightening of the F-150.
I am not brand loyal. I buy which vehicle I believe is best for the model year I'm shopping for.
