I think the 8 speed transmission helps the Ram with that low end torque. A diesel will have a hard time beating a gasser in a drag race but they have done well in some racing circuits. Audi is one that comes to mind. Some diesel pickup drag trucks are impressive.

But for them to get main stream I think the price of diesel fuel might have to come down. The diesel does have great fuel mileage though.

The price of diesel won't have to be less than gas. It might have to be equal to the price of gas though.
