If they put the fire out 30 minutes after it starts or 40 minutes after, what difference does it make? It's still completely destroyed, and anything near it. Automotive fires tend to burn very hot, but for pretty short period of time.

People also have this common misconception about structure fires. They think "oh well the fire was contained to the kitchen and living room" Well I got bad news, if the fire didn't burn it, the water destroyed what the smoke didn't.
