Twin Turbocharged 4.8L V8 Ecoboost in a Superduty?

Report: Ford F-150 Getting Next-Gen 4.8L V-8

Little is known about the engine other than the fact it will replace the 5.0L at the Essex engine plant and is expected to be a “high volume” engine. An engine specifically made for the Super Duty is also planned, presumably replacing the current 6.2L gas engine. The 6.8L V-10 will also reportedly continue to be produced for applications such as the F-650 and the E-Series cutaway vans.

Maybe the F150 version will be N/A and the SD version will be turbocharged.

EDIT: Since some have a hard time with the definition of "maybe" and what a question mark means......

  • No doubt it is just speculation as of date. It has been confirmed that the 6.2L will be replaced in the next 4 years by Reuters in an article about the new engine plants labor deal.

If this 4.8L is an iron block or CGI and turbocharged, then it is definitely a viable option and just about the right size to handily outperform the 6.2L in the SD. Or any other 3/4 or 1 ton gas engine for that matter.
  • Just a lot of speculation but interesting none the less. As a future (3+ years) SD buyer to replace my 2009 it is something I will continue to watch for.
  • I guess I didn't see where it talked about a twin turbo charged engine for the SD.

"However, a significant percentage of F-150 buyers still prefer the naturally aspirated 5.0L Coyote V-8 over the 3.5L or 2.7L EcoBoost V-6 engines."

Isn't the artical talking about a 4.8L naturally aspirated engine that will replace the 5.0 and find its way into a SD?
