U bolts

After 13 years I decided it was time for a newer camper.
I want to move my old style Reese dual cam to my new camper.

The new camper frame is longer and now my U bolts dont fit.
I have checked the local hardware and big box store but no luck.

Any suggestions on where to find the right size?
  • Thanks so much I will give them a call. This is the reason this forum is a great place!
  • I got mine from Elite Trailers here in Crestview, FL. Here is their website. If you click on the parts tab and scroll down almost to the bottom of the page they list "various sizes of U bolts" for $6.00 each. My frame is 6" so I got the 8" bolts. They work just like the original ones did. I feel sure they could ship them to you. If not, let me know. I can pick them up and ship them to you.
  • Get some threaded rod in the proper diameter. heat it and bend them in the proper places to make a new u-bolt. I had to do this with my lower air bag mount that is u-bolted to my spring. I used MAP gas with a torch tip (same as used in soldering copper plumbing) to heat the threaded rod.
  • Thanks for the suggestions, I did check with Reese here is the response.

    58007, 8” U-bolts are no longer available as are the 10” U-bolts, 58091.
Thank you for contacting the Technical Group.

I really dont want to go the google route unless I have to. I was hoping someone might have had the same issue and point me to the right place.

dhust could you tell me the name of the company you got yours from and I will see if they can help me?
  • Had the same issue when I traded in my TT for a new one in February. Checked for them in all the local hardware stores in the area and Tractor Supply. Nobody had anything heavy enough. They suggested I go to a local trailer dealer (they build and sell utility trailers not TTs). They only had 1 and I needed 4. So I had to wait until their supply truck came in the next day. The salesperson wanted to sell me exactly what I had since I took one in as an example, but I knew I needed longer ones.
  • I have the same type of Reese hitch as your. I took mine off when I sold my TT last year. These U- bolts are unique. Their inside radius are sharper than normal off-the-shelf ones. I suggest checking with Reese would be your best bet. If not available, you have to measure the corner radius of your TT frame to ensure good match with after market U- bolt.
  • Most larger cities have a spring company that makes and installs springs for trucks. They can make any description of u-bolt you need, since they make custom u-bolts for attaching leaf springs to axles. You will need a very good description of what you want, though.

  • The DC must have changed a lot - mine doesn't have any u-bolts that go on the frame.
Any chance you could use some all-thread to make exactly what you need?
