Ultralights with four bunk beds

Hello,

We're looking for an ultralight (trying to stay close to 6,000 lbs) with four bunks in the back, as we'll be using it for our kids and their cousins. We actually placed an order for the jayco white hawk 30dsqb, but the dealer called us back a couple weeks later and said that the factory stopped making them (which is super annoying since I thought we'd made a decision!). So now, we either have to track one down on a dealer's lot, or look at other brands. We did find a Rockwood 2905SS nearby which looks pretty similar, but actually has an MSRP about $5k less. So, a couple questions that I'd love thoughts on:

1) Jayco was offering 5 years warranties at the show when we purchased ours, and I'm tempted to go out of my way to try to hold on to that... do folks here thinks that's worth as much I as I seem to be thinking it is?

2) I can't figure out why the Rockwood is $5k less than the Whitehawk for a floorplan and set of features that is more or less the same. Any perspectives here on whether Jayco / Whitehawk are actually that much better than the Forest River / Rockwood?

3) Finally, any other brands we should be looking at. We're willing to pay for the quality / reliability as long as we can get the configuration we want (~6,000lbs, 30-35 feet, and 4 bunks in the back).

Thanks!

Yes, I would try to keep that as warranty issues do come up and having 5 years is exceptional!

You get what you pay for. I had a Forest River camper and it was a piece of garbage. Started looking at all their campers compared to others, especially Starcraft and Jayco (sister brands with near cloned trailer lines). Found that Forest River made a lot of short cuts on build quality compared to Starcraft/Jayco even if their features and options looked just as good or better. I would only consider upper end Forest River products if I could bring myself to consider them at all. The R-Pods are a unique trailer and really the only TT of their's I'd consider. I think Wildwood is the worst of the worst. Couldn't believe how poorly put together those were. Unfortunately FR bought up all the Pop Up brands so if I were to go to a Pop Up again, it would likely have to be FR as I don't really care for Jayco pop ups.

The 2 makes I'd stay away from are Forest River and Keystone. Just me personally, see more complaints and I've seen a lot of delamination on Keystone fiberglass campers (but it's on all brands as well). I'd look at the Jayco sister camper, Starcraft and maybe some Gulf Stream brands. I'd also look at Dutchman but read some complaints about them as well. Dutchman and Keystone are owned by the Thor holding company. I believe, unlike Forest River, they are their own individual companies, building trailers separately from each other. Forest River shares a lot of their trailers between different brands with same build features, which makes them more clones, than not.

If it were me, if I couldn't find a Jayco or Starcraft that I liked, I would look at Gulf Stream brands as well.

    Good luck.
  • Since you already found the right trailer for you, try Googling "30dsqb" and you'll get a list of other dealers that carry that model. We bought our last two RVs out of state (one 9 hours away and the other 3 hours away).
