Actually I took clearance into consideration and with the shelf 2" higher than my step and 4" higher than the drop hitch I use for my trailer, dragging should not be a problem. As far as cleanliness, I put those blocks down in dirt/gravel all the time so keeping them clean is not a concern. I can always spray them off with the outside shower attachment, toss them on the rack and let them dry while heading down the road if it ends up bothering me. ;)
