Last year wife, pup and I did a 11,000 mile trip to Alaska and back. The first 2000 miles I was pulling our boat that weighed about 3000# total. We traveled at 60 to 65 except in Alaska which was in most instances slower because of road damage and construction. I had a 2011 F350 King Ranch 4X4 SRW with the 6.2 gasser and 4.30 gear ratio with 19.5 tires. I weighed in right at 12,000# without the boat. Overall for the whole trip we got 10.88 converting Canadian liters to US gallons and all was hand calculated. Like normal heading to the west we hit quite a bit of head winds, in fact when we left the end of May we were having hard storms one after another and we were heading right into them. Two different times it was blowing so hard and raining I had to pull over under an overpass for some shelter from it as I couldn't see to drive.
When I bought our new truck after the trip if I wasn't going to pull an enclosed trailer I would have gotten a new dually gasser but with the trailer I bought a diesel again.
The new truck runs fine but it just threw a code while driving down the highway on Monday, this is with only 2200 miles on it. I had to have the dealer clear as it was the CEL (Check Engine Light). After having the truck for a day they have no idea what the code is even for and all the diagnostics checked good so they just cleared the code and sent me on my way. They said to see if it comes back again.
Note to self: Get a OBDII scanner so I can clear the codes myself and not have to waste a day at the dealer while they dink around with it and find nothing.
