Just remember RPM is all relative.
A trucker used to a low revving Cat C15 or ISX would cringe thinking about pulling hills at 2000+ rpm, when he's used to 1200 - 1600. A train engineer at 800 rpm, and a ship captain at 60 rpm...
If a motor is designed to run at 4000 rpm, then it'll provide a decent service life while doing so. Of course, if you haul heavy, day in day out, then nothing beats a diesel!
