brholt,
When you said:
We traveled from Seattle for a week out to the my mom's place on the Minnesota South Dakota Border, spent a week, and spent a week coming back. Included in the trip were substantial mountain passes and grades including the Big Horn mountains in Wyoming at 9,000+ feet (descended US Route 14A which is a 10% grade) as well as through the Beartooth Mountains on US 212 (10,700 ft pass).
it reminded me of our travels in that area. When we heading from Cody east on our way to the Bear Lodge Resort area there were light weight trucls pulling campers every couple of miles with their hoods up, steam blowing, or just dead in along the road sides. Probably the highest number of vehicle failures that I've seen in North America, mile for mile.
Janet asked why so many people were broke down... poor trip planning and ignoring the available information on what to avoid.
If you are happy with your truck and truck camper combonation after passing through that area you definately have a winner. I applaud you for getting it right.
Hope to see some pictures from your trip.

BTW: I (we) do love our duramax/allison... never have to give any of this stuff a thought... my thinker probably isn'r as good as it used to be.
