When I first got my 2011 F350 gasser I had an AF 27' 5th wheel. This trailer was 12,000# GVWR. So my GCW was right at 21,000# It was as all AFs heavy and I lived in MT at that time. I have pulled that 5th wheel over Homestake Pass in MT just outside of Butte, MT. It pulled the pass in 4th gear running about 45MPH. Now that might not seem like much but there are curves in there that you really don't want to go much faster. I averaged right at (hand calculated) 9.9MPG. This was driving the rig from NW Montana to NW Arkansas. I did not have a lot of extra power on the passes but I had plenty to do the job and my temp in the engine and the trans never got hot. This trip was in August so it was not cool out.
I'm not saying it well compete with a diesel but if a person wants an alternative to a diesel they shouldn't be afraid of the new gassers. Sure it won't blaze the hill down and make them like flat lands but it well get there maybe a little slower but it will still get there. You can't compare gassers from years back to todays gasser they are complete different animals, no difference than compare an early model diesel pickup with todays. There is no way to compare those 2 either. The new modern diesels will blow the doors off the first generation diesels, both being stock.
