4200# of 64ft square here behind a 3.0 TDI in a Touareg... 16.5 to 19 MPG, when towing at 58 MPH. Confirmed over about 16k miles of towing now in 2.5 years.
It helps that the tires are 14", inflated to 55 psi, and limited to 55 MPH MAX speed rating.
