I dunno, my brother doesn't get much better in his.
My brother's family and my family just returned from an approximately 700 mile road trip driving identical conditions. He has an '06 5.4, I have an '11 Ecoboost. Both crew cab short bed 4wd. Both are even dark blue! Mine has 3.55 gears, I don't know what his has.
Both had 5 people inside, bed full to and slightly above the bed rails with luggage and coolers, and hitch mounted mountain bike racks on the back. The trip included about 400 miles of 80 mph interstate, 200 miles of 55-65 mph 2-lane, 100 miles of slow national park speed driving, 4x4 sand roads, shuttling mountain bikes up steep gravel roads, and other general vacation/adventure driving.
Anyway, I got 19.8 mpg in my EB for the trip, he got 15.2 mpg.
