Re. the EcoD and hunting around for gears. Once of the charms of the truck is it's 8spd tranny. When I'm towing I put it in "tow mode" and the tranny does exactly what you'd expect.....it won't shift until it really needs to. As pleased as I've been with the engine, the transmission deserves praise too. I hadn't really appreciated transmissions until the last couple years ('99 Dodge, '06 F-150, '00 F-250). With more gears and more cleverly done shift logic, the 8spd ZF makes for a very civilized, very likeable drive.
I know that more adjectives then rigorous facts, but it's hard to describe. I regularly tow a trailer larger and heavier than most any other EcoD owner. And I'm hear to tell you that all the things that irritate you on a long tow, Ram seems to have made disappear. It's pretty damned impressive.
