My 2012 Touareg has bifunctional HID headlights. You do not want to rear end someone and break those... Like $1300 a pop for each headlight. Does not take much to have an air bag deploy and busted front headlights to make a 4 or 5 year old VW Touareg a "rebuilt title" project. Unforgiving to fix if you make driver errors, gets very expensive, very quickly.
IMHO, a $50,000 MSRP truck should come with HID's, period. RAM should have incorporated that in 2014, at a minimum, get their headlights out of the stone age, and into the 21st century. I need HID's for seeing at night a lot more than back up camera's or GPS units in my infotainment center. I spend much more time driving forward, and I usually know where my destination is 99% of the time... Google Maps on a smart phone works fine the other 1% of the time.
I'd really like to pick one of these up, Don, once those improvements become implemented. Once you have driven with HID's, nothing else is good enough... Give me some 4300k 35W HID's, from the factory, with reflectors that are kind on on coming traffics eyes with those types of bulbs. I am getting too old to crawl around behind the headlights or pulling headlight fixtures to do such modifications, twice on my 2012 passat, and later my 2014 passat, was enough.
That coffee brown on the outside with tan interior.... gorgeous... really really gorgeous.
