Never heard of wind drag lowering the tow rating, or a computer that would know how much payload or weight you have towed.
Would be interested to see that in writing to know it is the case. Either way, I doubt that the warranty would be voided unless you are grossly overweight - like 3 times or more. When was the last time you heard of an engine or suspension failure for being overweight? And if you go on any of the truck forums (pick a brand) there are PLENTY of photos/videos of people insanely overloading their trucks.
All it takes is to be involved in an accident with an overloaded vehicle and the lawyers will have a field day.
Urban legend. Cite a single example where some guy was, say, 5-800lbs over rated tow capacity and got into a crash. After the emergency vehicles came and left, a couple days later accident investigators showed up and surprisingly, found every piece of cargo that had spilled out of the trailer that up-ended and spilled contents for 200yrd because the looters were taking a holiday. The investigators picked it all up, took it back to the police station and weighed every piece. The sum was a couple hundred lbs over. 6 months later the lawyers were able to prove that every piece the investigators picked up did indeed come from the trailer.
