Update to Cable question post

What satellite system are you using? Directv has their newest wireless system that only requires cable to the master box. Otherwise i would consider running a new coax under the trailer, being sure to thoroughly seal the holes you drill. I have also had good luck running the coax under or through cabinets to where i want it. Each trailer is unique and does require a lot of thought as to how to get from point A to point B

X2 on running cables through cabinets. I do not like seeing wires so I always find a way to hide them. You can look and see where the original wires are run and can usually follow them. You may have to move a panel or two but it is easy to do. JMO

Thank you. That's what I was afraid you were going to say. I was really hoping for the magic bullet :) My husband was thinking the same thing that both of your recommended. He'll be glad to know he was on the right track.

I don't understand. If the cable is run to your "antenna/cable brain center" in the electronics cabinet in your bedroom, there should be a cable from there to your TV, regardless where it is at.......that is, unless the TV was installed by someone other than the factory.

Look in your cabinet...you should find a coax (or hdmi) cable that is connected to your TV. It would be nice if you would provide us with your rv type, make, model so we would have a better idea of what you may have.

Thanks for the comment. Perhaps we have overlooked something. We have a 2013 32bhpr Keystone Premier. There is a coax cable outlet for our family room TV. When the campground has cable we just turn it on and we're good to go. But we think (I hope we're wrong and you're pointing this out to us) the issue will come in with the satellite receiver.

Are you saying that after we do the modification in the "brain center" that the coax outlet in the family room will be able to transmit satellite without interference as now? Connections would be: modifications made in brain center per document>satellite dish outside>cable run from dish to back of camper>fixed coax outlet in family room cabinet hooks up to back of receiver coax>HDMI cable run from receiver to back of TV>end

If so, we thought that the only coax that would work with satellite would be the actual brain center coax not all coax outlets in the camper.

What are the "modifications" have you done?

To receive a signal from a satellite dish, you must have a receiver for the particular satellite service (DirectTV or DISH) and the two much be connected via an RG6 coax. Then you will need to take the coax (or hdmi) cable that is run from your electronics cabinet to the TV in the living room and connect it to the output of your satellite antenna receiver.

Typically, you will then have to go into the "info" or "mode" selection on your TV and choose which input you want. If you connect to park cable, you should be able to select this on your TV. If you connect to a portable satellite dish outside, you again should be able to select this on your TV. The same holds true for the OTA antenna.

Can you get to the back of your TV? If yes, how many inputs are currently connected to it and what type of cabling?

I don't know if this will be of use, but I'll throw it out there as I don't know how you did your modification. This is how I rewired our trailer. My understanding is that by adding the small jumper in one of the last diagrams, you will have satellite in both locations (just as you did with cable as the signal goes around the amplifier). You will have to watch the same thing on both tvs though. Hope this might be of help.

That is the wiring diagram that we followed. Essentially then the family room will be good to go. Thanks.


Landerd: Afraid of bears posted a link to a document and the link is also earlier in this thread. We followed those instructions so that our satellite will work. If the modifications are not done in the "brain center" then the "brain center" blocks the satellite from working via the coax cable in the camper. We have satellite at our house. We bring the receiver from our patio and a spare dish. Setting up that is the easy stuff.
