Upgrading wheel size

I have a 2012 Passport 3220BH 7500lbs loaded. Right now it has 14 inch wheels and I need new tires and was thinking of going to a 15 inch rim. I currently have the Carlisle Radial Trail HD 205/75R14 LR C and they have been excellent.

I just want to put a bigger tire on it for the not so good roads we have around here.

I put about 3000 to 4000 miles on the tires a year. I will be putting Carlisle Radial Trail HDs on it again.

I have the room for the larger tires.

Thoughts? Is it worth it after 7 years with no issues? Maybe just a load range D?

ST205/75-14 C at 1760 lbs = 7040 lb capacity. I'd bet your 7700 lbs is a estimate and not a actual scaled weight.
Looks like the 205/75 tires are close to being maxed out.

Your choice on going with a 14" load D which would give tires on the trailer a bit more needed reserve capacity. Now you don't want to get silly and go with 2800-3000 lb + rated tires on a 7k lb road trailer .

For my use having several cargo trailers used as job site tool trailers/boat trailers that came with 14" tires ...I sold the 14" tires and wheels then moved up to 15" sizes.
The cargo trailers were pulled over rough roads getting to worksites so taller tires made things ride a bit easier inside the trailer.

I actually scaled it last trip. Rear axle was 3520 front axle was 3480, truck was 7900 with trailer on the tongue. That was with 30 gallons of water in the potable water tank.

I think I will just go with load range D tires this time.

  • If it ain't brook don't fix it. Yes, up the load range.
  • 15 inch rims will add an inch but are the 15 inch tires you are considering the same size, larger or smaller overall compared to your 14s?
