used camper help

the owner contacted skyline and they are saying 2680 dry weight. my truck has a 4600lbs trailer rating but not sure about the gross with everything so going to the dealer tomorrow.

You should have a rating plate, embossed numbers, or a sticker on the trailer that lists it's gross weight. Why do you need to know the weight now? Hook it up to your truck and take it to a scale. That will tell you exactly what it weighs.

Yup, Buy it. If you are close to me and you do not want it I will find someone that does.

If all else fails you can tear it apart and use the frame for a
trailer.

But, I'm a Caveman that lives in the country and I can do stuff like that.

For 600 bucks I think you should take the risk. If it looks like there are no leaks and everything is not rotten it is probably good enough for what you want to do.

I do agree that you should put on new tires. Go to you local automotive repair shop;; that you trust;; and price them out. They should not be that expensive.

Still can't find weight of this thing. He found a ul number and data plate # title doesn't have a weight either.

New tires will run $85 each. Otherwise that seams like a smokin' deal, even if it had leaks. Like you said- one year of use is near break even point.

Pressurize the interior with a blower and spray soapy water on the exterior to check for leaks. Do a search on this Forum.

Budget for a new set of tires. Contact your local tire shops.

Let me get this straight. If the fridge doesn't work it will make a great place for boxed and canned food storage. A cooler can take it's place for under $100. Propane bottle expiration can be resolved by using one of the exchange services like at Circle K, Lowes the local grocery store etc. IF there is a roof leak that could probably be fixed with the roll on coatings. The only issue I see is the tires and bearings, of which this trailer probably only has two. How much can that cost in the big scheme of things? All in all, for your stated purpose, this seems to be an extremely good deal.

Tires on the trailer and getting the trailer level when hooked to the truck seem to be your major concern. Are you leaving the trailer on the property or towing it back and forth when you want to use it?

Reason I ask is the level of repairs needed will vary depending on what you are doing with it. If you are planning to drag it there once and leave it I would look for a spare tire or two and take my time pulling it there on back roads avoiding highway speeds.

If you are running it back and forth then new tires are a must.

I would be using it to go maybe 80miles round trip on weekends on back roads about 2-3 times a year and 1 round trip 400miles round trip on the highway.

any clue how much tires and such would cost? I was also told repack the bearings.

We have tent camped at our hunting spots but a new tents $400 and setup, etc. we figure for $600 have a cozy camper. if we cant tent camp a hotel cost $130 a night so a few trips would pay for the camper.

he says hes coated the roof yearly and last time was last summer. opening the cabinets and such I didn't see any water spots.

my main concern is leaks, safety of pulling something that old and not having to sink a lot of money in it.
