Used Truck Advice: 06 GMC 2500 Sierra 4x4 gaser

Our friends are truck shopping with the idea of getting a hard side Lance 815 or similar camper. This is the truck they are looking to get, any idea on how this will handle a non-slide hardside 8' TC? Anyone out there have a similar set up? Mods they have to do? Mods they should do?

Thanks in advance

  • Why ya asking us??
The dealer said: "BIG MOTOR, WILL PULL ANYTHING"
    What, you don't believe him?
    lol

If I were them I would keep looking for a lower mileage 1 ton single rear wheel.
RAM usually has higher payload than the other 2.
  • Much wiser to find the truck and camper being sold together. Seen some great package deals that way.
  • Gasser with 143,000 miles. I know they last longer than they used to but that would be too high milage for me. Nice of them to finance it though for 60 months at 7% :o
  • They will need Torklift stable loads, Trimbens, and heavy duty shocks at least. At least a load E tires. I have the same truck and have gone to 1 size larger tire than OEM. My camper loaded weight is 3000lbs.
  • First off, that is a find there! Nice truck.
I have seen plenty of that ilk of GM trucks with small and light TCs on board. The tires are limiting and probably at least needs stableloads to engage the overloads. That 8.1 and Allison transmission is probably the best gas tow rig ever IMO.
  • I think it's always a good idea to find the TC first. There are a few people here with similar trucks and non-slide campers, so I'll let them describe how they ride.
