We unload regularly and have a large TC. I always lower it to almost as low as it can go and provide additional support. For sure you want the ground to be stable. I try to keep the camper level as I lower it. Haven't had a problem so far other than a jack motor acting up which I repaired. The task is, as you said, quite manageable.
