Should have had you change mine out. After 100000 miles on WY roads took the Ford garage quite a while to change it.

They are not like the old ones that just quit working. They don't just 'go out'. They start to loose pressure and bit by bit as the pump heats up you loose power and it does not feel like a fuel pump problem.

Been there done that. 4 stops at repair shops to see why she was bogging down after an hour or so on the road.....5th stop at Ford Dealership? They threw a pressure testing unit on the fuel line, ten minutes later we were dropping the gas tank and replacing the fuel pump. Problem solved. Goes without saying you replace the filter at the same time!:B

Your lack of power and knocking is both because the MAF sensor is oil-foulded, and is causing it to run lean, and also retard ignition to attempt to control the pinging (but the PCM can't compensate for an oiled MAF!).

I put in a K&N almost right after I bought my van, because the paper filters were plugging up in less than 10,000 miles!

Last spring, I upgraded to a MUCH larger AFE intake system, also with an oiled filter. Intake tract is clean. Engine idle is still nearly imperceptible inside the van, and it will snap your head against the headrest when you punch it (even at freeway speeds!). It hit 352,000 miles this morning.

I'm pretty convinced the V10 has no problem with oiled air filters. Just be sure to carry a can of MAF cleaner.

V10 with 4.3 axle. What a great combo. I'm with the post on fuel filter. Have it changed. Tough to change out yourself. Mounted to frame on drivers side. I had a 02 V10. 120k mileage shouldn't be a problem. Great tow vehicle.

Did you replace the coil boots and springs when you changed the plugs? How about the sparkplugs, were they motorcraft?

Also, could you be experiencing a torque converter that is slipping?

I have to ask, why did you put in the K&N? Every reputable "improvement" shop recommends against using the K&N. The reason is the K&N allows larger dirt particles into the engine, which is not a good thing.

You have the improved crank (vrs the introductory engine) 2 valve engine.

There is always an engine tuner (chip), you could contact 5-star Tuning and see what they recommend.

Avoid gas with alcohol and lose the K&N filter

Replace the fuel filter.
