I had 3, a 2000 SE 4WD Xterra, a 2004 XE Crew Cab 4WD Off Road package Titan, and the later 2005 SE 4WD Pathfinder. Only the Xterra was a good truck.

The other 2 were terrible with the Titan being a Piece of crap. I ditched it after only 19,000 miles due to trans problems, rear diff problems, brake problems, brake master cylinder problems, electrical problems, build quality problems, leaky windows, rattles and shakes, and other problems. 2nd worst vehicle I've ever owned, new or used!

Pathfinder had alternator and ABS problems. It did die on me so I don't consider it reliable. Had to fight Nissan to fix the alternator/tension arm even though it was still under warranty.

What made me get rid of it was a manufacturer paint defect that caused paint blistering all over. 2 other people I know had the same problem but forced Nissan through legal means to buy back their vehicles. I just traded as it was easier for me. If I kept it, it was going to cost me $7,000 to fix the paint!

Even though Fords are not without problems, my Ford experience has been a very good one as they bend over backwards to make you happy.

The only thing that the Frontier will be better at than the Pathfinder will be rear axle weight and wheelbase. Rear axle rating should have more 'extra' capacity since the rear of the truck is much lighter than the SUV. That would help with the keeping the rear end from dragging. The longer wheelbase will help with sway but it's still very short next to a full size truck.

Payload would be no better and perhaps worse than the Pathfinder. I don't remember what my payload was on my Pathfinder but the brochure MAX payload was only 1307 lbs.

The Pathfinder did a terrible job of towing my pop up with it's ultra weak rear suspension. It was nose high with rear squat and that pop up had a lighter 300 lbs 'loaded' tongue weight. Hitched to my Sport Trac, with a much heavier duty suspension (and it was coil also), the truck didn't squat at all. It was level.

The Frontier would do good with a pop up or a very small travel trailer due to it's under performing 4.0L V6, low payload, low rated hitch, and shorter wheelbase. I would not pull a trailer over 22' bumper to hitch, at all. I would stay at 20' or below with a low frontal surface profile.

Oh yeah, don't be afraid to leave it in 3rd going 60 if you need to... You get used to the loudness after a while.

We have been pulling a 23' Trail-Lite with our Frontier with no problems. Get about 10-11 mpg. Haven't pulled up any huge mountains, but been over just about every one in our neck of the woods. I turn off overdrive when pulling so there is less shifting on tall hills. I have no problem maintaining 55 mph on the Saluda grade or on I-40 near Asheville in 3rd gear. According to the CAT scale, I have about 3000 lbs. in reserve for combined weight. Never had a sway issue, hope not to. Always at 65 mph or less. Use an EZ wd hitch, no sway bar. Hope this helps.

Had the SUV version, the Pathfinder which used the still current 4.0L and 5 speed auto transmission.

The engine was really weak on torque so I wouldn't recommend it for towing anything but a pop up.

I towed a 22' 4000lb TT with an 06 Frontier AT V6 2wd. Hated it. I live in Oregon and most everywhere you go you're climbing something. Handling was fine with just a simple EAZ-Lift. It was the power factor that turned me off. Nissan recommends locking out OD for towing. Out on the freeway it felt like it ran out of power at 60-65 mph. I also got 8.5 mpg towing. I moved up to an 08 F150 with 3.73's. Perfect match. Hardly new it was back there and got 10.5 towing.

Have a similar R vision 23 ft TT and had a Sonoma V-6 Crew Cab. Your truck has enough wheel base and with an Equal-i-zer or reese dual cam hitch properly set up stability should not be a problem. You will probably be OK on the flats but in the Sierras on the long grades it will not be easy. I moved up to a bigger rig since we go over the rockies and back most years.

That being said I had a 2011 F 150 which I lost count at 19 trips back to the dealer for the same problem in under a year.

You can get a lemon with any truck.
