Valterra Fridge Vent Fan

What are your experiences with the Valterra Fridge Vent Fan?

This one...

This time of year, there's no need for it, but when our warm humid summer starts next year, I would like to give my fridge some help. This fan is advertised as automatic, and that appeals to me. I like its simplicity, if it works as advertised. The reviews on Amazon are reasonably good, with a few not so good. If I buy it, I will install it just under the vent screen on the roof.

I'm guessing yours is aimed up toward the cooling fins?

Correct. If my rig was available I would take and post a picture but it is under cover about 250 miles north of me. It is simply mounted in the bottom compartment right above the gas controller and blows upward. I used the strapping material supplied with the fan as shown in the picture link you supplied in your OP. The thermostat button is mounted on the ammonia tube right at the bottom of the compartment and right behind the fan.

The fridge does not require a lot of air movement to keep it working well. Just enough to circulate and move fresh air into the compartment. Computer fans, as mentioned above would be a good solution also.

  • Wasn't moving enough air to make any difference so I installed 2 computer case fans at the top of the vent stack. That made a significant difference.

Tried one, and it was a piece of junk. Batteries wouldn't fit in the case, and when I did get them in, one was shorted out and almost exploded before I could get it back out. Good idea, I feel that a good fan would really help cool in the feridge, but the Valterra is a piece of junk. I have not found another one yet, but the computer fans seem like the best idea.
I think you are referring to the small fan that goes inside the fridge. It does run off D batteries. The one I am talking about goes in the fridge compartment behind the fridge or above it, and is wired directly into the RV's 12-volt system.

I installed the Valterra fridge vent fan in an effort to improve the Norcold 145's functioning in hot conditions (above 100 degrees). It improves the fridge's temp by a couple of degrees. Not nearly the amount of improvement that I was hoping for.

Did you mount yours in the lower compartment, around the fins, or up under the roof vent cover?

By the way, there are no batteries involved with that unit. It gets its' power from the trailer elec system.

  • I added three computer fans and a thermostat to the back of ours. Purchased them off of eBay for around $15.00 total. Works great and very quiet.
