Vent crank not working

2010 Forest River/Rockwood. Vent only opens an inch or so. Removed plastic bezel. Looks like screen held by 2 screws from top (outside). Even if I remove Maxx Air cover, I couldn't open vent cover to get to screws. Suggestions?

  • On our 2004 Rockwood, you remove the 4 screws holding the plastic frame, as the others have described. Then you remove the screw holding the crank handle and remove the crank handle. Finally, the screen pops out by squeezing in the center at each end to bend the screen plastic frame inward to clear a tab at each end.

  • I've had 4 travel trailer, a 93, a 94, a 98 and a 2003. All the vents were the same. Take out 4 screws to remove the trim ring. Then you take out 2 screws PLUS the screw out of the crank handle. The screen and crank handle will now come off. This is all done from the inside of the trailer. I know this because twice a season if not three times my wife has me take the vent screens out so she can clean them.
As I think about it maybe your MAXAIR vent covers might be interfering with the vent not opening all the way.
  • I'm not sure I follow what you're describing or having trouble with, but I'll try to help.

From the inside, our vents have a plastic frame held by 4 screws... pretty straightforward to remove.

As I recall, the screen is held in place by two recessed screws which are accessed from the inside. A long philips screwdriver is required. Of course the handle needs to be removed also.

It sounds like your gear mechanism is not functioning correctly... you should be able to find replacement parts if needed. After removing the frame & screen, you should be able to reach everything. You should not have to go up top to access the crank.

    Happy Camping!
