VIN Location? Update: VIN Found!

Campers are now titled in Idaho. When I sell mine, I will need to fill out a release of interest form which includes a VIN. I can't find one anywhere on my camper. I've looked in all of the cabinets and the metal decal on the outside by the back door came off years ago.

Does anyone know of any secret locations it might be?

P.S. I bought a 2001 Real-lite yesterday, more to come later.
  • I wonder what they do for campers without a VIN. My last TC didn't have one.

I'll check that out. The new owner will need to have a VIN inspection and that will help so they won't have to have a new VIN tag made.
  • I found it. When I went to register the camper, they had the VIN in their database from when I first registered it when I bought it a looong time ago.

Idaho started titling boats and campers back in 2009. It doesn't mention a VIN specifically, but all of the title paperwork requires a VIN. If you don't have one, there is another form to assign an ID number which is printed on a metal tag and affixed to the unit. I had a home made boat that had to go this route.

Are you sure that you're required to supply a vin 0n earlier models ?
Maybe this link is old info...not sure

Just read that. What BS. If you move there from another state with a camper and have no proof of sales tax paid, you have to pay THEM, the state of ID. And that's retroactive to 2009, no matter how old the camper is. I thought the point of sales tax is supposed to benefit the county in which the item was purchased. That's called stealing where I come from. There are some other puzzling things in those links as well. Charging sales tax on a used item of any kind is just wrong, IMO.

I'm guessing that previous to 2009, ID couldn't have cared less about TC registration. I see that the title fee was doubled back in 2010 from the initial fee. Only took a year to do that. Makes sense, I guess. 2009 is when gov'ts began shaking down people for more money over trivial things. Once starts, It only gets more expensive from there. Okay, I'm done. Sorry, I wasn't amy help. It's part of my charm.
  • The only vehicle number I see on my 2008 Lance 1191 is a serial number on an attached plate (right rear, outside by the side entrance). Also listed is the weight of the camper which was modified by a sticker inside the galley cabinet.

  • Do you have registration, bill of sale, or insurance? Those probably have it. Other than that, where you bought it "could" have some record of the purchase.
