Vinyl covering coming out of metal trim...

I have had this happen on all of my NorthStar campers:

I can try to pull it back into place stretching it from the front/ top but it just pulls out again. I could cut it at the part closest to the jack, but then there would be a gap. It seems that to fix this correctly I would need to remove the jack itself to pull back some excess and then reinstall... but that seems to be a bit of work.

Has this happened to others and how did you fix it?

  • Cut it where you can reach it. Leave the old stuff in the sealed areas. Put the new trip strip in the areas you can reach. Seal the joints with 100% silicone caulk. You can purchase replacement vinyl strips at any RV supply store.
  • Buy the extra thickness when you buy it. Cut it close and caulk.
  • Not as simple as unscrewing a few...

...the vinyl end is thoroughly sealed under a metal trim piece that spans horizontally at the top of the nose cap and the bottom is tucked and sealed behind the jack mounts. I agree that replacing it is perhaps the best fix, but a bit of effort that I would like to avoid as I do not want to open up sealed components (it 'aint leaking and don't want to open the possibility.)
  • the simple answer is you can do whatever but you will have to change it in the end as you won't like the results.it's just a cover for the screws you just unscrew the first few slide the old out and the new in
  • New ones to replace would mean that I would have to dissemble the top at the sealed trim on the roof (I don't want to open up something there which is not leaking) and I would need to disassemble the jack must too.

Was wondering if I were to use a heat gun to expand and then douse it with ice water to perhaps "set" the new expanded version... anyone try this method?
