Slide out cover detached roof trim

While doing my pretrip inspection today I noticed that the trim molding covering the gap between the metal roof and the sidewall was pulled out. On further inspection, it looks like wind pressure on the slide out cover has broken the rivets holding about 24" of the roof molding in place. It appears the this molding is attached to the roof panel because there is a gap where the roof panel is pulled away by the slide out cover attachment.

You may be able to see it in the photo below.




I leave for Utah next week so not likely to find a shop to look at it. I know I'll have to remove the slide out cover to access but I'm not sure about how to go about repairing this once I can get to it. My fear is that this somehow snaps over the metal strip attached to the wall which would make it difficult to repair.

Any recommendations will be appreciated.

    Is this on a older Monaco motorhome? This was quite common on older Monaco's. I drilled out and used 1/4 inch self tapping screws to reattach the awning rail/trim when this happens. Doug

    Had this happen on my 03 Monaco Neptune. Removed the awning material, trip strip and cleaned all out including all old caulk. Reinstalled drip rail with 1 1/4" SS screws and then the material. Not a one person job but doable for the DIY person.

    Good luck and I'd not worry about water yet as the awning is above the separation.

    Yes, it's a 2004 Holiday Rambler.

    Doug - I thought 2 1/2" TECS screws would solve it. Do you remember what you used?

    Dale - I'll probably do a quick fix until I get back from Utah then take the time to do it right when I get back.

    We had the exact same situation occur on our 2001 Ambassador 38PST. It occurred on the kitchen slide, and I removed the slideout cover, cleaned up the area and clamped it down as well as possible and rescrewed it together using self-drilling hexhead stainless screws. I put in 3 times as many as the factory had used and never had a problem over the next 50k miles. The screws are going into aluminum so be careful not to overtighten. As said, doable for a DIY type but need an extra person to help remove the slideout cover. I watched all three slide outs after that for the same problem. Hope this may help, Happy Trails Bert

    Bert - thanks for the info. So it seems you just screw it on from the outside such that the screw head is exposed? That's what I was thinking then use silicon on the inside of the trim to seal it

    If memory serves me correct, there is a track that a plastic continuous screw cover will attach to when complete, you will go through that track, the actual roof material and the upper part of the sidewall into an aluminum square tube. I got a couple of the screws started and then started drawing it down tight a little at a time. Caulking in that area may be difficult, you may end up using Butyl tape between the layers for sealing, and then using silicone or another sealer under screw cover. It was over 10 years ago when I fixed mine, but this seems pretty close. Hope this may help, have a great day Bert

    Yep.....before I even looked at your signature line, I knew it was a Monaco. I took very good care of 2005 Diplomat and was surprised to see it happen. Luckily it was a small spot that I caught right away and did as others did, added screws to make the repair.
