Voltage, amps, and watts
I'm a little confused on inverter use. I know that dealing with AC current, watts = volts x amps and using that formula, when I'm plugged into power, my 1200 watt coffee pot uses 10 amps of my 30 amp...

Try this out....
Battery test
The only real world one I did was hook-up 1500WATTS of Electronic test equipment to a 1500WATT Power Inverter being run from a standard rental car once with the car motor running and it only lasted about 15 minutes... Then the car died and the alternator went bad
Using the formula listed in the link on a 90AH 12VDC rental car battery battery gives me .6 hours (so I don't know how to explain it...)
This is what google says to do at any rate haha...
All I know for sure is I can run about a constant 22AMP DC Current drain on my 255AHs battery bank from 6PM to 11PM running our stuff and this added with a parasitic drain of probably 1-2AMPS my battery bank will be at its 50% (12.0VDC) level by 8AM the next morning... This works out pretty close using the formula above for my battery bank getting down to its 50% charge state...
