I went with a composite lawnmower deck last time around, instead of a steel one. So far so good! I know of a few folks with the plastic boards that are around 1" thick on flat beds. Lighter, stronger than wood, along with steel. I wish I could have pulled that off a bit earlier today. But had to go with 2" T&G as always.
BUT, drop a few rocks that are in the 50-70 lbs range from the same height, NOW see how well that bed works. I have also seen some BIG dump truck beds made of a plastic composite bed. No issues with them making 4-6 trips loads a day at a local topsoil, bark etc supplier.
