Walmart no longer an option?

At one time you could buy the rand McNally from Walmart they had a section the showed which stores allowed overnight camping, and which did not. It's been a few years since I bought one so I'm not sure if they still show this.

This is just becoming a myth proliferated as it goes on. I have NEVER seen anything in print that a local CG, not to mention one in every single state, has come forward to town officials and complained that RV's parking at Walmart was taking away their business. Really just think about it for gods sake. When was the last time you went to a CG and there were so many sites open because they were all parking at a Walmart. :R:R

It is Walmart themselves and the local town people who live in the area and shop there that do not want to see people 'living' in their RV's pan handling, rolling meth labs and the like. AND the RV'er who chooses to stay/hunker down in a Walmart parking lot for days instead of paying for a CG. Therefore appearing to be one of the aforementioned adding to the problem.

I will bet it is Walmart tired of long term jerks and trash and not the CG owners.

Newport OR has the same sign as shown bt OP. Funny but every time we drove passed 2 weeks ago there were over nighters. Looked at a couple of private CGs and they were full, of course it was Eclipse week.

I'm not privy to the towns ordinance but if I remember correctly, the sing must list a town ordinance in order for the PD to tow a vehicle. I will bet it is Walmart tired of long term jerks and trash and not the CG owners.

Speaking of church parking lots, as an RVer and also a pastor, when we put in our parking lot a few years back I asked the electrician to install a 50 amp RV service into one of our parking lot light poles for the purpose of letting RVers stay if they wanted to. In three years we've only had one couple stay there a few days. So, if anyone is ever traveling through Ontario, Oregon on I-84 let me know :)

people will just park on the streets or in church and school parking lots now

I'd say you are right on in that assumption.

I've 'stealth camped' before because the wife and I were beat from driving and we pulled into a vacant parking lot (not Wal-Mart) and grabbed some shut eye but left early am.

Seems to me, the abusers of Walmart are not the every day Rv'ers, where one just stops for a few hours in the middle of the night and are gone the next morning before it gets busy in the Parking Lot! The abusers know who they are and I really don't think they hang out of this Form...although I could be wrong?

Some Walmart lots that are posted only use that as way to remove the losers. If you talk to the manager, he might just say have a good night.
