Want an electric truck?

Interesting video about towing with a Tesla. Sure, a TC would be different, but the video shows how much power loss and how far off the range is while towing.

Seems like the range concerns that some of us have for a Truck Camper are valid. At least, I think Tesla is pretty much state of the science right now. They had issues with doing a 65 mile loop followed by a 65 mile towing loop.

The Fast Lane Car Tesla X towing.

  • No question electric vehicles are here to stay. Will they take over, maybe, but I bet we still have ICE vehicles long into the future. One day we will see a new battery that will really change the equation. In the meantime i will continue to pump Diesel in my F450 and dream of the day I can replace it with electric.
  • If you think trailer or camper is going to have the same aerodynamics the sleek car has- you go to wrong doctor.
  • Y’all can beat this to death again if you want. The treehuggers say it’s THE answer. The rednecks say it’s garbage.
Bottom line, no, it’s not THE answer yet. But it’s AN answer. Commuter vehicles, short trips, great, for now.
Hooking and booking with some real weight, uphill into the wind, out in the country, EVs are not up to that task yet or even close. There’s not even any infrastructure to support it.
So keep arguing, but you all know the answer and refuse to acknowledge the other side of the coin.
  • That Fast Lane video was just a preview of what towing electric might look like. I bet when Tesla or Ford release a truck, it will have a lot more available energy.
  • Looks like Ford is going for an electric truck. This might be 1 more of many mistakes they are making. Personally I think the death of the sedan is premature and unwise also. I like our 2017 Ford Focus in spite of the disastrous dual clutch trans. With the MPG and $17000 I paid for a nearly new one gas for it's life will still make it lower cost than an electric and it performs better. We still don't have batteries for a truly practical, all- purpose vehicle not to mention the cost.
  • free radical, unless you think a truck is going to have radically different performance characteristics, a truck will have the same type issue. I obviously included the word “car” in the link. A full charge might have have made the 65 mile loop at speed, but I think most of us are wanting hundreds of miles of range between charges not sub 100.

They added another new video for towing uphill. Yes, it’s still a car/crossover, but as they say, it’s the closest thing to a electric truck as you can get right now.

    Ike Gauntlet test uphill/downhill.
  • So where is the TRUCK?
    Fyi
    X is a car

    Btw
They didnt charged up to 100% on that run.
