- f4mdtwrExplorerGot it. Thought you were asking because DMV might ask.
- btggraphixExplorerCuriosity and for comparisons sake. I started out at 13'2" but shaved off another 6" with a low profile Carrier AC to get my to 12'8.5". The lower the better for branches and bridges etc. It's not been too much of an issue but every little bit helps on Forest service roads and occaisonally city bridges etc. especially in the east.
- f4mdtwrExplorerI have. It's under 14ft, think it was 13.6ft. Why?
- btggraphixExplorerPs: have you measured your height yet?
- btggraphixExplorerGood luck! Looking good. Thanks for the updates.....I am going to order some of those headlights soon. Will also look forward to hearing about the results of the suspension upgrades. Sure would like doing the same to mine someday. Will you be removing the bar that connects the front two springs together? I talked to a guy at the expo who had removed his and recommended it and assume the aftermarket springs don't have the holes for it anyway. But I won't likely do it until or unless I replace the springs.
- f4mdtwrExplorerGoing to the DMV tomorrow, I think I have everything I need. Wish me luck. I'll report back my results.
- BedlamModeratorBolt the raised platform to the camper and to the deck - This will be your permanent mount. You can then leave the turnbuckles in place and call them "stability enhancers" since they tie the outboard side of your structure to the truck but are not then main tie down hardware. Finishing off the open sides in to storage will complete the look, but explaining the attachment method above will show that is not an easy on/off module from the rest of the vehicle. Tie your electrical connections into the truck harness using a junction box instead of a quick connect plug/socket to show your intent of not removing the camper.
Speaking with the people at the inspection station and getting all of their expectations addressed prior to making the official visit will help make this process go smoothly. - f4mdtwrExplorerBedlam,
What would you recommend? I was planning on removing the jacks. I was also thinking about removing the weight fee using the VC256A. But i rather register it as an RV to further lower the fees. I don't ever plan on removing the Lance so switching it to either an RV or non-commercial status is what i'm looking for. - BedlamModeratorI don't think turnbuckles will qualify as a permanent mounting system for RV status. At the very least, remove the jacks so it does no look like can be removed.
- f4mdtwrExplorerUpdate…
Got some updates on the project
I welded some tie down points to the flat bed frame and the crossmember…
Notched the wood planks so the tie down brackets would come through the planks and used D-rings to secure the lance.
This is how the lance is secured to the kodiak
Shot of the rear deck with some green fake carpet
Lance feels very secure and having the rear deck is pretty cool. Still need to put a small fence where the deck is at so I can carry some stuff and so the kids don't take a dive and hurt themselves.
Getting the new front and rear leaf springs this upcoming week from Atlas Springs, they do good work there and I am looking forward to a better ride. Going to raise it 2 inches so I have more clearance in the rear.
Got a appointment with the DMV late next week, looking to convert this baby into a RV so I can reduce some of the registration fees. If any one can provide any pointers as to how to breeze through the DMV, I would really appreciate it.
Let me know your thoughts on the modifications.
