Warm rear differential...

I noticed this morning that the floor in the bed of my truck is warm after driving a few miles. The only part that was warm was the floor above the rear differential. I have not noticed this before and want to know if this is normal. The truck is a 2011 Ram 2500. I was loaded with perishable food that I pick up twice a week for the local food pantry.

  • Will check the oil level. I think it may be time to change it also. I just haven't noticed it before today. I am on my hands and knees loading and unloading twice a week and think I would've noticed it before.
  • I would say 'NOT Normal'.......

The differential is not that close to floor of bed.......plus air flow between the two.

Have you checked oil level in diff.?

Have you checked how hot diff./axle tubes are?
  • When was the last time you check the oil ?? Saying that, some times they get warm when you carry a load
