I was traveling a few years ago and had a Ford warranty problem. The dealer told me too bad nothing could be done. DW called the 1-800 in the Ford user manual. Ford Direct. Talked to the guy on the phone while we sat in the PU in the parking lot. He put her on hold for a few minutes came back and said all was taken care of. Funny before we could get out of the PU the head manager was running towards our vehicle complaining that we had no need to do that BUT bring the truck around and we will take care of you. So give it a try. May or may not work.
I had the same thing happen to me with a VW TDI. Every time II took in in for the the "included" oil changes they would not remove the belly pan and it would fill with oil and leak all over my garage floor. After getting nowhere with the service manager I called VW of America about a half an hour later the owner called me screaming and swearing at me for calling VW. I told him if he didn't like it the first time he sure was not going to like the call he gets in about ten minutes! Yep I got a call back apologizing for his actions.
Have your buddy call Ford, but I suspect you won't get very far with them. The Domestic car companies do not care about their customers like VW does! Sad!
