Warranty for Original Owner Only?

I have been looking for used Travel Trailers that are no more than 2-3 years old. I just found out today that most companies warranties only apply to the original owner. In other words, nontransferable warranties. Keystone, Jayco, and StarCraft just to name a few. Can someone give me the names of camper companies that do have transferrable warranties. I don't care so much about the bumper to bumper as I do the roof warranty.
This may change my game plan to buying a new camper.

  • Personally I wouldn't put warranties on TT anywhere on my list of concerns. As mentioned to start with the vast majority are for 1 year anyway and are there to pick up major issues which hopefully occur in the first year. Also as mentioned about the only really long warranty is on the roof and that is material only which for say a 30' TT is less than $1000 out of a $5,000 to $8,000 cost to repace the roof since the vast cost is in labor.

  • As you have learned TT MFG warranties are non-transferable. Extended warranties are transferable. However neither cover for water intrusion (leaks). Caulking and seams are considered a maintenance item. Even new TT only cover against leaks for 90 days. I assume you are concerned about a roof warranty for leak reasons--if so that is all on the owner.

What was the 'warranty' on it?? Why do you want to buy something else the same age?? Why.... Oh, never mind... ;)

You're a funny guy:B. The Keystone was too big, too long, too heavy, and not enough thought went into it. It was my first TT and it was an expensive mistake. I have seen way more thought in much less expensive TT's.
The more I think of it, any warranty claim I have made has ended up in more damage than repair. Thanks for the information.
  • Also know that roof warranties are typically for the roof product itself, not the installation! When there is a leak, it's rarely covered by the warranty...

  • If you buy a used 2 year old trailer, it's doubtful it has any warranty left for the original owner anyway??

I don't think you get more than a 1 year warranty on NEW trailers these days?? Of course you get offered the 5-7 year 'extended warranty' which is just a 5-7 year insurance policy, but I digress... ;)

Trailer manufactures don't have the deep pockets that auto manufactures have, so you get what you get and hope for the best! :)

Good luck with your quest, but I'd suggest that if you want a manufacture warranty, you buy new and go from there...

    Good luck!

  • Doubt there are any...could be wrong.

In all reality, you are often lucky if some manufacturers fully honor the original owner warranty without hassles and stipulations...
