Warranty for Trailer purchases out of state

The warranty is supplied by the manufacturer not the dealer. Buy where you want and contact the manufacturer for authorized service centers in your area. You may not get preferrential treatment at another dealer or shop but you can get the work done.

You wont get preferential treatment no matter where you buy; expect any repairs to take months to complete, no matter how small.

We bought out of state and I called my local dealer (who couldn't match the price) and their service manager assured me that they would honor any manufacturer warranty repairs. They did, but as stated, all repair visits took months to complete. Bring it in so they can look at it, take pictures, and order the parts. Bring it back months later when the parts "might" be in and authorization is given to repair. Several months later, call and check on repair to be told, "its in line". Then months later call again and complain to the manager then pick it up a few weeks later. Then, find out they didn't complete all the repairs, go camping and bring it back weeks later...(You get the idea). And, you will find the same story from those who bought from that dealer. If you don't think you can make at least 90% of any repairs yourself you might want to reconsider the purchase of an RV. Big problems are taken care of by the manufacturer of the RV or the manufacturer of the "thing" (refer, A/C, etc.).

I make most of the repairs on our current RV, no worries for most of the small/medium type of stuff. Just curious for the big stuff. I know for insurance related issues you would take it to an authorized dealer. We had a tree limb fall through last winter and had to get a new roof and back slide out.

Just wondering how a many bought far way and what issues were encountered.

It all depends on how much you are saving buying out of state. We saved 10K! It cost me about $300 to pull it back out to the factory to have a repair done and the factory paid to have it delivered back to me.
We also have a very small rv dealer nearby that has done warranty work after a call to Open Range to get approval.

Bottom line is if you save enough money, and you can figure out how to get the work done, you can come out ahead.

Won't work in California. On motor vehicles, the odometer has to show more than 7500 miles, or you pay California sales tax in addition to what you paid out of state. I'm sure there is something similar for travel trailers, maybe a time consideration or something. Be sure to check that out before buying to avoid a nasty 10% surprise.

I live in KY and just purchased a camper in OH. There were no dealers closer to me for the Venture Sonic 170VBH.
They said no issue at all with warranty work (2 year warranty) and the weird thing is I paid NO Ohio sales tax, but will pay it in KY where I register it. The sales lady also said if it was a USED camper then I would pay Ohio sales tax.

Thanks for the replies. Was looking at Outdoors RV and they are all out west, no one closer to Georgia sells them. Didn't know how that would work out, guess they would have authorized dealers here????:h

Some manufacturers will, after their approval, let you hire an independent RV service to do your repairs. You may have to pay them then submit the bill for repairs unless they want to bill the mfg themselves..
