Water heater anode socket size?

Anyone know offhand what size socket fits the water heater anode?

Thanks
John
  • They sell little lances to flush out the tank from a hose. Get quite a bit of calcium out when I flush.

When I drain from the anode hole there is still water and quite a bit of calcium in the bottom of the tank. Have you ever taken the shutoff valve out and out your finger in there?

  • I use adjustable wrench with screwdriver through the hole. They aren't usually that tight.
  • The steal anodes are usually 15/16, plugs range from 1-1/16 to 1-1/4. I think the heating element will be 1-1/2". Have at least a 6" extension-12" works super... ;)
  • I use a 27 mm socket on mine. I believe that 27 mm is about the same as 1 1/16. I just don't feel like doing the math at the moment. :)
