We had a mishap in our new to us 2013 tt. I haven't even slept in it yet:( we are letting my parents stay in it during a visit this weekend. Someone turned on the shower when the water was off and left the valve open. Then someone locked the door and turned the water on outside. I was standing outside a few hours later and was wondering what that dripping noise was. It was coming from the underbelly. The shower filled up and water was running down the floor to the front left side of the trailer. Fortunately, I had the trailer pitched down and to the left. I vacuumed all of the water and punched a hole in the underbelly to let it drain. I will run a dehumidifier tomorrow all day and keep the windows open and roof vent open as much as possible for the next week. Anything else I can do? Will the underbelly dry up or will I have a mold problem?I think I am going to be sick now! : ( my parents feel terrible about the mess.

You will likely have to remove the underbelly covering and all the insulation as it is probably soaked and mold will be growing in that. Plus the underside of the floor is probably wet also and it will be a real problem later if not dried out asap. Good luck to you sir.

Water fitting blew off on backside of our water heater while we were sleeping.......water ran for hours, flooded kitchen/living room area, down into basement storage compartment and into underbellyFor the underbelly.....I unscrewed the rear portion across back of 5th wheel and the front portion across the front of 5th wheel......stuck 2 fans in rear and let them blow for 2 days then sealed it back up. NO issues.Insulation in our underbelly is foil/bubble/foil....doesn't absorb waterGood luck!

I am new to trailering..but I can tell you this. If it were a house, you dry up,the water immediately, put a fan and dehumidifier on it, and all is good. Mold needs constant moisture to do serious damage.

Although it's kind of a pain I would pull the underbelly and take a look. Or at least pull the corner where it was dripping out and see how wet it is. You might get lucky and only have to replace a corner of the insulation.Honestly though a roll of insulation from Home Depot is $13. You could pull the underbelly, let it dry for a week and then put new insulation in and put the screws back in. It really isn't that big of a job once you get started.

IF your underbelly has insulation, you may want to see if you can get to it to dry it out.PS -- reminds me of when my folks borrowed my old MH. Brought it home after 2 days and told me there was a "stink" in the holding tanks....they'd poured 3 gallons of chemicals in it but the stink was still there. ???? I'd cleaned it out...couldn't figure it out. I asked if it was possibly LP they were smelling. My step dad informed me that LP doesn't have a smell (yeah, right --- I know -- he was wrong). I reached under the rig and turned it off. They had NO idea they'd turned on the burners without lighting the burner!!!!!!! (and yes, I HAD told them it didn't have an electronic ignition). They had driven it 250 miles to bring it home!!!!!!! That was the last time I let anyone use my rig.......:)

I'm pretty anal about things so I constantly check to make sure the faucets are all off. I also always make sure that I don't hear pump noise when I shouldn't. That's a sign of a leak if it keeps periodically cycling when there is no one using water. Can't remember the last time we had city water hookup since we camp in State Parks almost Exclusively. Your story may get me to start turning the pump off and even the water spigot (if we have one) when leaving for day trips.

Glad it worked out. A nightmare to a nice dream.

I know you don't want to ruin your vacation but maybe it's best to get it handled right now. I would definitely call the insurance company and get it repaired correctly.

The adjuster was sympathetic to my situation and seemed to really advocate and was able to get it approved as a total loss. Thank You Erie Insurance! I have been doing some research in the meantime and put a deposit on a new unit 10 minutes later. We pick up a new(leftover) 2014 Jayco Jayflight Swift 267 BHS on Monday. I got a deal I'm happy with and we can still keep our 4th of July plans.

I called the dealer that has it for service to inquire about trade in value. He low balled me because he said it will take a few thousand dollar hit because of the water damage and potential for mold problems down the road. Kind of what I was expecting even though the reassured me it will not be a problem in the future once repaired. I wonder if I have a diminished value argument on the insurance claim like I would on a car.

You can bet that the final total will be a LOT more.

I just called the repair facility. Their estimate is $6200 and most parts are on backorder for 6-8 weeks and then time to fix. I will be lucky to even see it before fall. I haven't even had a chance to sleep in it yet. After I hear from the adjuster I will inquire about a trade, but they have the upper hand in negotiation and i can see me getting the short end in order to pull this off.

Don't get so discouraged. It wasn't the TT's fault after all. You likely learned an important lesson about double and triple checking your rig.

Things are really up to you. If you want to wait, your trailer will be repaired by I think your summer is shot. Otherwise, negotiate a new deal and have at it. Again, it's your decision..it's only money.
